San Marcos' Premier Veterinary Hospital

About UsFounded in 1991 by doctors Dan and Sally Nowland, a husband and wife veterinary team, Springtown Veterinary Hospital is a state-of-the-art animal hospital serving the Central Texas communities of San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Wimberley, and New Braunfels.

The Nowlands met while in veterinary school at Texas A&M University and soon after began practicing at separate veterinary hospitals. Long desiring the opportunity to create their own practice, the impetus arrived with their second child, a daughter named Kelly. Because Kelly was born with Down syndrome and a heart defect, the Nowlands needed to select a site for their hospital near an advanced metropolitan medical center.

San Marcos offered the perfect solution: A vibrant community with access to excellent medical care for their daughter. Even though 5-month-old Kelly died after heart surgery, the Nowlands continued with the purchase of the hospital, determined to create a special home for the care of companion animals and to raise a family.

As a family practice, Springtown Veterinary Hospital has served these two goals well. The Hospital has become a staple of area pet owners seeking compassionate, high-quality veterinary care while allowing for a very satisfying work/family balance as they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Janie.

Sharing ownership of the Hospital has also allowed the Nowlands to remain active in issues related to Down syndrome. In particular, they are supporters of Down Home Ranch, a working farm and ranch that provides a home to 40 adults and children with Down syndrome and other disabilities. The Ranch also hosts summer residential camps for people with disabilities.

The founding principles of family and community underlie all that we do at Springtown Veterinary Hospital. We strive to remain on the leading edge of veterinary medicine while maintaining a practice that is a welcoming home for the care of your pet.

We have built a facility that reflects the best that modern veterinary medicine has to offer. Our equipment and services are continually evaluated and updated so that we remain at the cutting edge of veterinary care. We also work on building and maintaining a skilled, experienced and friendly staff. We have blended the skills of our doctors to create a medical team with broad expertise and experience. They are supported by a staff composed of well-educated, outgoing team members capable of making decisions and who feel a sense of ownership in the Hospital.

As testament to our success, Springtown Veterinary Hospital has been named a Practice of Excellence from Veterinary Economics magazine and is a fully accredited hospital by the American Animal Hospital Association.

American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)

Springtown Veterinary Hospital is proud to be an American Animal Hospital Association accredited veterinary hospital. This distinction is achieved by fewer than 15 percent of the animal hospitals throughout the United States.

We believe in the principles of professionalism, high standards of veterinary care, and excellence established by the AAHA and work very hard to maintain our accreditation with this organization. Every three years Springtown Veterinary Hospital undergoes to a comprehensive evaluation and inspection by AAHA. This evaluation includes our record keeping, diagnostic capabilities, surgical and anesthetic procedures, facilities, quality of medical practice, pharmacy, emergency services, dentistry, nursing care, housekeeping, and continuing education of our medical staff.
